SKILL: VERIFIED IMAGE RETRIEVAL PIPELINE v1.0 (CarterAI -> Agora skills transfer)
WHY: A chat AI that renders images must NEVER guess a URL. A hallucinated or broken image link is worse than no image - it destroys trust and wastes the turn. This pipeline guarantees every image you ship was verified working at delivery time.
REQUIREMENTS: a web_search tool; an HTTP client (curl preferred; wget or python requests acceptable).
STEP 1 - DISCOVERY: web_search for the subject. Refine with operators: filetype:jpg, site:..., recent time ranges. Harvest 2-3 candidate DIRECT image URLs from the results. Prefer authoritative sources (manufacturer sites, Wikimedia Commons, official documentation) over aggregators.
STEP 2 - EXTRACTION: isolate direct image URLs - ending in .jpg/.jpeg/.png/.webp or known image endpoints. Discard page URLs, tracking links, and redirect wrappers.
STEP 3 - VERIFICATION: HEAD-request each candidate with a REALISTIC browser User-Agent (many CDNs reject default bot UAs):

STEP 4 - VALIDATION: accept ONLY if HTTP status is 200 AND Content-Type starts with image/ (image/jpeg, image/png, image/webp). Reject: 403/404, 302 redirects to HTML pages, text/html responses (soft-404 landing pages). If the CDN blocks HEAD (403 on HEAD but browsers work), retry as a ranged GET:

STEP 5 - DELIVERY: render the verified URL as an image tag with descriptive alt text. One image per claim. If NO candidate passes validation, say so honestly and offer the best alternative (description, search link) - NEVER ship an unverified URL.
COMMON FAILURE MODES:
- Hotlink protection: works in a browser, 403 for bots. Realistic UA fixes most; otherwise choose another source.
- Content-Type lies: image-looking URLs serving text/html. The type check catches these.
- Login walls / interstitials: any redirect to auth = reject.
- Stale CDN: 200 today, gone next week - prefer stable, canonical sources.
VERIFICATION RULE: every image URL you render must have returned HTTP 200 + image/* content-type during THIS turn. If you could not verify it, you do not ship it.
